How Does It Work?

Weeks 1 to 6 >>

You will learn the foundational theory essential to successfully and ethically bring music to your clients. You will also learn to integrate music listening into your clinical work. Depending on you and your clients, this includes one or more of: guided imagery to music; creating therapeutic playlists; musical life-review; exploring topics through familiar songs; and self-expression through found music.

Weeks 7-12 >>

You will continue to refine your approach to meet your clients' needs. You will choose one additional clinical-musical method to focus on: songwriting/composition; re-creation; or improvisation. Re-creation is often more comfortable for students with less musical experience while songwriting/composition and improvisation can be strong choices for those who are more comfortable with music.

What People are Saying

A life changing experience!

by Faye A. Paris, Ph.D., RCC

"The only way I can describe my experience taking the Music-Integrated Therapy Training Program with Deborah Seabrook is to say it was a life changing therapeutic experience. It is a process that taps into the heart and mind. Not only did I receive basic knowledge of music therapy, but my image of myself musically changed. This is a powerful technique I can use to assist my clients in addressing their mental health needs."

Practical Ways to Bring Music Into Counselling!

Chantal Lamothe, RCC

"Learning about ethical and practical ways to bring music into my counselling has increased my confidence."

In-depth professional development!

Janet Walker, MA, RCC, Certified Expressive Arts Therapist

The Music-Integrated Therapy Training Program provides in-depth professional development that is very compatible with my clinical approaches as an Expressive Arts Therapist and a Play Therapist. The training helped me reflect in on my relationship with music and my approach to therapy. I learned how to integrate music creatively and safely into my existing practice with all ages of clients and for a variety of presenting issues. The interactive weekly meetings, the thoughtfully prepared workbooks, and the literature and resources offered during this course were stimulating to me as a therapist and as an individual. Deborah is a warm, encouraging, and very experienced teacher.

One of the best trainings I have ever done!

Carly Goodfellow, MA, RCC - Certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist

I am extremely pleased with this course and I would say it is one of the best trainings I have ever done. I am a long time musician and a psychodynamic and sensorimotor trained psychotherapist. I have always been curious about bring music to my psychotherapy work but got a bit stuck around how to blend what I thought were two different therapeutic approaches. This course really offers a process of integrating music into your own way of working. This course unfolds in a way that you discuss your own way of working and then explore possible music experiments and interventions to enhance your therapeutic aim. I found this course has built up my confidence with offering music as an intervention. Deborah brings such a warm, inviting and encouraging approach to the sessions which has made it truly a delight to experience. Highly recommended!

Enabled me to Integrate my Passion!

Michelle Noftall, C.C.C., N.D. (M.Ed., B.Music, B.Ed.)

The Music-Integrated Therapy training program with Deborah has enabled me to integrate both my passion - music and counselling - in a responsible, effective and ethical way. I looked forward to each class and the community that we created together in our cohort that will continue to be an integral component of my professional life going forward as Music-Integrated Therapist.
